Who Is The PranaMama?

Four little words — Who Is The PranaMama — appear prominently at the top, left side of this web site.  According to web gurus, this is the most visible area of a web site – a real estate gem on the World Wide Web.  The top left should be reserved for the most important information about a web site, as the reader will likely see it first, and may make a decision on the rest of the site based on that one link.

The PranaMama has a bad habit of ignoring this page.  Perhaps it is because I know what is there and know it hasn’t changed.  Or perhaps, it is because it has changed, but I’m uncertain where it’s taking me.  Or, finally, it could be because the mere mention of myself on a site intended to help others, sends shivers down my spine.

Hmmmm.  I’ll ponder that for a bit.  I know who The PranaMama is not: The PranaMama is not always the happy mom cutting fresh apples for her children and sprinkling them with cinnamon.  Nor is she the irritable, sleep-deprived and impatient mom who wishes someone would just come over to help.  Nor does she walk around in a fog of peacefulness, whispering Namaste to passers by, deriving only good from the world and spreading love wherever she goes.

The PranaMama is all of these, and none of these, all at once.  The PranaMama has changed since that very first post on July 28, 2009.  As the very first post was written last summer, she was creating an outlet for sharing her knowledge and passions for wellness with the world.  Having recently been diagnosed as depressed, she had made some major changes in order to bring more peace and health into her life.  Today’s PranaMama is the same loving, health-minded mom, but is also admittedly selfish, having found a personal passion for writing and creating a profession using these talents.

The PranaMama is no longer depressed.  The PranaMama is healthy, personally fulfilled and extremely grateful for the life she lives.  But The PranaMama is constantly torn in two, or three, or even four, desperately seeking that elusive “balance” so many of us parents seek.   I’m still a ways a way, but I’m getting there — much closer than I was last summer when the first post was published.

I look at that link, but I do not click.  I see the sub-pages, “This Mom’s Story,” and “About Me.”  I remember writing those pages, and thinking about how to communicate my intentions for this web site, without sounding completely self-absorbed.  I cringe looking at the page links, the way I cringe when I check my bank account balance and know it won’t be good news.

Why is that?  What is it about my self-description and promotion that makes me uncomfortable.  I’m not sure, but I know it needs to change.

The PranaMama is a totally different mama than she was 9 months ago, when this web site was created.  My hope is that other moms using this site as a resource are also different mamas.  In honor of nine great months, and tonight’s 100th post, I think it’s time to update that link, “Who Is The PranaMama?”

I ask you, dear readers, to define, “Who Is The PranaMama?”, not only about me, or this site, but with your personal reflections on health and happiness in motherhood.  All responses will be posted directly on the “Who Is” page, giving myself, and every visitor to this page, the inspiration we crave.

With Gratitude for Your Friendship and Support,

Amy
