Are you an Alpha Mom or a Beta Mom?

I just found this great clip from The Today Show, discussing the differences between Alpha Moms (everything must be perfect!) and the Beta (Slacker) Mom (living in the moment, accepts that she cannot be perfect.). The women interviewed give wonderful insight into both worlds!

Which kind of mom are you? Which do you aspire to be?

Thanks for the follow on twitter, I am following back.
Actually, this is what started my movement of Theta Mom. I have this exact video on my left side bar on my blog. I am a Theta Mom, come check out why! :)

I can’t even count how many times I’ve said I wish I could be more like my mother in law and sister in law. They are beta moms (I hesitate to use the term ‘slacker’)- going with the flow, content with what is, not overanalyzing things. It’s a beautiful thing and I admire that ability. I have often thought – Wow, pay attention – you can learn a lot here. I’m obviously an alpha mom, and I’m okay with that. But always seeking that balance. Yoga has helped TREMENDOUSLY in that respect. It’s great to live in the present moment and be content with what is. By the same token, there is a fine line in life, especially when it comes to parenting. Yoga is all about finding a healthy balance.

Thanks Theta Mom – I found the link on your site and think it is fabulous! Great job communicating to moms that it’s okay to be any of the above!

Lisa-I love the term “slacker” because I feel that way sometimes, and this clip made me feel okay with it! I used to be an Alpha Mom – when I only had one child! With the second came my transformation. :) Yoga is definitely my saving grace- need to log off and go practice right now.

    Namaste to all moms!

I love the similarities between the two and the fact that we all have both aspects within ourselves. As we become more comfortable with recognizing both Alpha and Beta personas we’ll be more genuine mothers and individuals.
